  INSOLVENCY EXAM TRAINING
 AND SUPPORT

Neil Taylor has worked with insolvency professionals for more than 23 years. Whilst at ATC in 1989 he worked with the Joint Board to set up the first courses and exams for those wishing to become Insolvency Practitioners.

As well as working as a freelance lecturer with BPP he is a consultant for KPMG, Zolfo Cooper and others and has developed versions of his Support Programme for their JIEB (and other) candidates. From a position of a very low national pass rate in 1996, KPMG now enjoy the best comparative pass rates in that examination, achieving outright success (and a number of prizes) in all but 5 of 120 candidates up to the time of writing in autumn 2009. The firm also achieved a magnificent 100% pass rate in the exams in 2007, gaining 13 new licences out of 13.

In 2004 Kroll (now Zolfo Cooper) first employed Neil as a consultant in a similar capacity as KPMG and enjoyed real success in the exam at a time when the pass rate fell by 20%, including one of their students being awarded first prize. Since that time the firm’s pass rate has been significantly higher than the national average and they have achieved other prizes.

Please note that whilst all the references on the page Benefits Of Support Programmes are to the Joint Board’s exams Neil has designed and run similar Support Programmes for a number of other exam centres.

The key benefits of setting up and maintaining a proactive Study Support Programme for JIEB students are as follows:

  • It will increase pass rates.

This has the financial advantage of avoiding costly resits and referrals, as well as enabling the firm to
    plan for its future.

Studies by an educational body in 1999 discovered that it costs £50,000 to put each Joint Board candidate through these exams. This cost excludes elements of the lowering of morale and reduction in self-esteem, as well as the effects on the image of the firm and its ability to cultivate a positive success culture amongst students of this and other professional exams.

  • It creates an environment of positivity and support throughout the target group when studying for and sitting this vital exam.

  • It will replace the sense of ‘we will wait for you to fail and then respond’ approach of many insolvency firms. Setting up a bespoke Study Programme is a motivational statement, and will highlight your firm as a prime location for study, learning and development.

  • It enables each candidate to receive individual support, guidance and encouragement in the way they organise, plan for and approach their study and exams.

This creates an atmosphere of creative learning that will permeate through everything else this pivotal group of people do at the firm.

  • It increases confidence and a wide range of skills in the candidates. They will feel supported and mentored through a significant part of the journey in their careers.

Failing exams can be demotivating and affect the performance of exam candidates on the line. Working with Neil Taylor to set up a bespoke Study Programme will have the additional benefit of closely monitoring the progress of each of your candidates individually, increasing the quality and type of feedback on their performance and study objectives.

  • The Programme provides continuity of support, guidance and encouragement in exactly the way each individual candidate needs, from a professional exam expert with huge experience in delivering inspirational, relevant and targeted guidance in this exam.

Neil Taylor will work with you and your business to design the level of support and expertise you require.
